Chicago Financial Technologies was our first Chicago design-build project. CFT develops databases for large companies in the United States and abroad, and from the beginning we talked with the client about site analysis and planning. Even though we didn't develop programming in minute detail, the experience gave us a taste of Chicago design-build. R/ADC was hired as a Chicago design-build development consultant to help the owner buy land as an investment. The owner had the money in hand and our role was to help make the money grow and create a good building and a good example of Chicago design-build. In this way, we added another dimension to Roszak/ADC: working closely with commercial partners and developing our Chicago design-build capabilities. The owner gave us a clear picture of CFT's financial resources. In turn, we showed him that our version of Chicago design-build would make it possible to incorporate enhancements and refinements he thought he couldn't afford. CFT shared our architectural vision and gave us the opportunity to expand the concept of Chicago design-build to the building's interior. We designed furniture, experimented with our favorite materials and showed CFT that Chicago design-build is synonymous with innovation. Chicago design-build means that smart design adds value to a building. Chicago design-build also means that right from the start a company can make plans to move up a level financially. CFT purchased the land for its Chicago design-build project for a good price but held off developing the entire site. In the interim, the undeveloped land has more than tripled in value and eventually will become the site of another example of cost-effective Chicago design-build.
