Justyna Roszak wanted a quiet space of her own - a place where she could escape and relax for a few minutes each day. As a new mom to twins, Justyna needed some alone time.
"I relish being a mom and having the kids around me," she says. "There are times when I just need a few moments of quiet".
Her husband, Thomas Roszak, an architect at Roszak/ADC (Architecture Development Construction) in Northfield, IL, came to her rescue. "He designed a yoga room for me," she says. "I practiced yoga throughout my pregnancy and found it to be energizing and relaxing. The room has a wonderful view of the woods outside and is sparsely decorated."
Furnishings include yoga mats, overstuffed floor pillows, a stereo for meditative music and a flat screen TV for watching yoga videos. The floor is made of Brazilian cherry wood. "It's a warm color and the steel beams on the walls are painted a warm orange yellow color," Says Thomas. Large windows provide natural light.
"Everyone who comes to visit loves this room," says Roszak. "It has a peaceful vibe".
"People don't realize how important their environments are," says Nicole Sassaman, an interior designer based in California. "With so much activity in our lives and so much noise, it's essential to want to escape to a quiet place. And that quiet space should be in our homes. It can be one room in a house or apartment. That quiet space allows us to listen to our inner voices. We all need to de-stress - it's a natural healthy response to the chaos around us."
