Young executives work and live together
But do you really want to see your colleagues on the way to the sun deck?

Henry Heisler of Evanston typifies today's young professional. He's goal-oriented, wants a place of his own and seeks an active urban lifestyle without a torturous commute. Colleen Hichborn, also of Evanston, shares the same interests and yet both were surprised to learn they bought condominiums in the same development. Why were they so surprised? Because they both work at Hewitt Associates, one of the nation's largest human resources outsourcing and consulting firms.

"I was really interested in buying new construction because of the long-term value, even though I was pretty young," said Heisler. "And I wanted an easy shot to get to the Edens Expressway to cut down on the daily back and forth to the Lincolnshire office. I can understand why many folks from Hewitt would want to live here."

It turns out that five young executives at Hewitt Associates have chosen to buy at Chicago Avenue Place in Evanston, a phenomenon that developer Thomas Roszak has seen before. "One of the largest referral sources when buying a home is word of mouth, and company water coolers are great places to learn about the better developments and best deals," he said.

Hichborn, who lives down the hall from Heisler, bought her first condo at Roszak/ADC's 1415 Sherman Avenue, back in 1998. When she was ready for more space she wanted to stay with Roszak/ADC so she moved down the street to Chicago Avenue.

"We're close enough to the heart of downtown Evanston to enjoy all the pedestrian benefits but because we're a few blocks away the parking is much better, which is important for those of us doing the car commute," Hichborn said.

After working with Hichborn for a couple of years at Hewitt, Allison Kamen became familiar with Roszak/ADC's developments and its reputation. Kamen was drawn to Chicago Avenue Place because she wanted new construction and was ready to move in once she found units within her price range.

"Having already lived in the neighborhood, I was familiar with all the benefits of Evanston," said Kamen. "And after visiting Colleen's place at 1415 Sherman, I got to see what a Roszak home looks like and I wanted one myself."

Like Heisler, Hichborn and Kamen, Yan Yang knew the Evanston area and preferred the low maintenance and high resale value of Roszak's new construction.

Beyond those common themes, Yang was also drawn to Chicago Avenue because she didn't like the sterile-looking high-rises that are punctuating downtown Evanston. She would rather have high ceilings than live on a high floor. Yang also doesn't like being tied to her car.

"Having the train close by give me another option to reach downtown Chicago," Yang said. "I would've thought that the train would make some noise but I've never even noticed it."

While their specific reasons for choosing Chicago Avenue Place were varied, the Hewitt employees all agreed that the quality of the construction and the ideal location were the most important for their particular stage in life.
